Although the makers of Zanjeer are caught in a legal battle with the writers of the original film- Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan- director Apoorva Lakhia has chosen to stay away from any controversy.

“I am the director of the film and I have nothing to do with any of these things. I was approached to direct the film and have done so to the best of my capabilities. As far as the cases are concerned, I have not been involved at all. I have not been issued a single notice and have not gone to court. It is the producers fighting it out. I have stayed away from it on purpose,” says Apoorva.

The director reveals that at first, he was sceptical about doing the film. However, the script appealed to him, and that’s why he decided to be part of the project. “I have made a commercial film and I am quite confident about my product. We knew that people will make comparisons and that some people would hate the idea that we are making it (a remake). But the name is powerful enough to make people go and watch it.”
