Arjun Rampal is back on TV after a gap of about three to four years. Following in colleague Preity Zinta, producer-director Karan Johar and star-anchor Simi Garewal’s footsteps, the National Award-winning actor will anchor a celebrity-based show that’s likely to go on air late this month or early next, on Star World. It’s likely to be positioned in the slot currently occupied by India’s Most Desirable, anchored by Simi.
The actor’s last full-time stint on TV was Nach Baliye Season Four, which he co-judged with choreographer-director Farah Khan and actor Karisma Kapoor. The show that was broadcast on Star One was marred by hundreds of controversies, and its shooting had been stopped mid-season because of the long-strike observed by the actors, technicians and producers of TV shows.
Hopefully Arjun, awaiting the release of the Shah Rukh Khan production RA.One, won’t face any issues this time. His new show, insiders say, is bereft of controversies. It’s supposedly a homegrown format and has a hard-hitting concept. The actor-producer, who was busy lately with the F1 after-parties in the capital, confirms that he is returning to the small screen, but refuses to divulge too many details: “Television is a challenging medium. One has to work really hard to capture the pulse of the audience. The excitement has to be built up week after week. With my experience of the small screen, I can say that it’s the only entertainment medium that captures raw emotion, as it is.”
Previously, there were reports that Arjun, who has been featured on a couple of chat shows lately, was going to produce the next season of Nach Baliye. Over the last six months, he had shown keen interest to return to the tube either in the capacity of a judge or a host. “I’ve always been attracted to this medium, but I’ve had an opportunity like this before. This show’s got a hard-hitting and in-your-face concept. I’m really excited to come back on the tube,” says Arjun, whose show’s promos go on air tonight.
