Actor Rakhi Sawant is under the scanner for her controversial remark about sage Valimiki, who wrote Ramayana. During a TV show last year, the actor had compared Valmiki with singer Mika Singh. She had said that like the sage, Mika had also gone through a behavioural transformation from bad to good. Her comment invited ire from the Valmiki community and also led to protests in Ludhiana. One among the protesters also declared that the actor must be punished to make sure that next time onwards she avoids taking law in her hands.
On Friday, a non-bailable warrant was issued by a Ludhiana court, as per reports in ANI. Earlier on March 9, a warrant was issued against the actor after she failed to appear in court.
However, the 38-year-old actor had denied charges and had told ANI that unlike actor Salman Khan, she is an innocent individual, who devoted herself to doing social work.
Talking about the Valmiki controversy, Rakhi had said that she had used the example in a positive way. Her intention was to explain the change in her friend Mika, when the singer was accused in an assault case.
In fact, during her interview with ANI, the actor, conveying her apology, said, “Through ANI, I want to apologise to all the Valmiki community brothers and sisters, if I have hurt their sentiment. But this wasn’t my intention.”
This is the second time an arrest warrant has been issued against the actor.
