Not many people know that even before he made his acting debut, Arshad Warsi was an established dancer-choreographer in Bollywood.
And when his acting career took off, Arshad never got a chance to get back to dance. But with this new project, the Munnabhai actor will be choreographing a dance number featuring himself and 100 back-up dancers. The song is part of his upcoming film titled Calling Mr Joe B Carvalho.
“It’s been almost 15 years since I have choreographed a song. Back in the ’90s, I had worked on an ad film for the director of my film, Samir Tiwari. At that time, he was heading an ad agency. Since he had liked my work then, he asked me to choreograph the dance song for this film. I agreed to it because it’s a fantastic number,” says Arshad, who is currently shooting for a Vishal Bhardwaj production, Dedh Ishqiya.
The yet-to-be-named song will be shot at different locations across Mumbai. The makers, on their part, couldn’t be more thrilled.
“It’s great that an actor of Arshad’s calibre has agreed to choreograph the song for the film,” says producer Bhola Malviya, adding, “The song will feature elaborate dance moves and will be shot in April. We plan to release the film around July-August.”
