At times, destiny plays a major role in getting us what we wish for. Arshad Warsi, who got a second lease of life with Munnabhai MBBS (2003), understands this. But he rues the fact that he has never got an opportunity to work with Amitabh Bachchan.
Not many know this, but Arshad was launched by the Bachchans’ company in Tere Mere Sapne (1996). Though the two did work on a film called Zamaanat, it was never released. The actor says, “Sir once said, I think Abhishek (Bachchan) will have to complete the movie. So even though we have been working on a project for so long, we still don’t have a film together.”
But Arshad is keen to work with Bachchan senior and says he will cast him in his movie when he turns director. “I would like to direct, but I need the right kind of producer to back me. The day I get that, I will start working on my film. Obviously I won’t act in it, but I want to cast some of the amazing actors we have in the industry in it,” he says.
Talking about his relationship with most of his directors - be it Rajkumar Hirani or Abhishek Chaubey - he says, “My directors can direct on the phone and I can do the job. I don’t do readings or attend workshops. I understand my directors well. I can read their mind. All I need is clarity about the character. My directors are happy with me.”
