Actor Avani Modi, who appeared in the Bollywood film Calendar Girls (2015), had a harrowing time on Thursday, after she received hundreds of text messages and phones calls on election-related queries, reported Mid Day. The actor had to go through a lot of trouble before it came to light that the BMC had mistakenly published her phone number in a poll advertisement, which asked citizens to reach out for queries.
“I don’t know what to do. I’m being harassed. People are calling me continuously,” Mid Day quoted her as saying.
The actor who works in Hindi and Gujarati films, said she couldn’t afford to keep her phone switched off due to professional reasons. “I don’t know who would call me. I could get calls from friends, directors, industry colleagues or relatives. This (the relentless calls and SMSs) is becoming so tough for me,” the actor said.
Avani demanded an apology from Additional Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Deshmukh, whose signature featured in the said ad. “I demand an apology from the officers responsible (for the advertisement).”
Deshmukh acknowledged that Avani’s number had been mistakenly published, adding that the mistake had been committed by his juniors, Mid Day added.
