Bollywood actor Soha Ali Khan says she has had “discussions” with mother and veteran actor Sharmila Tagore over the recent spate of ‘award wapsi’ over intolerance in India. But the Rang De Basanti actor believes it’s a matter of personal choice when it comes to returning or keeping the awards.

“We’ve had discussions. She (Tagore) is very passionate about certain things and I know she has been vocal. I completely respect her point of view,” said Soha. “We haven’t had a chance to debate on it but we both come from a secular and liberal school of thought. But my take is ‘each to their own’. People who have awards and who want to keep them or return them, it’s their personal choice,” Soha said on the sidelines of the Blender’s Pride Fashion Tour.

Tagore has said the attacks on writers and artistes were against the basic principles of democracy. Soha, alongwith numerous other Bollywood celebrities came out in support of the Pakistani artistes being targeted by the Shiv Sena, asserting that art and creativity shouldn’t be stifled.

Talking about the mother-daughter’s line of thinking, Soha said though they do differ at times, but their thoughts “certainly aren’t poles apart”. “We come from a similar school of thinking. I had a different life, educational system and so I have my own thoughts as well,” she said.
