Actor Ayushmann Khurrana, who turns 33 today, has always maintained that he’s not much of a birthday person and unlike many, hates surprises . But with two successful films back-to-back at the box office, one would have thought that the Shubh Mangal Saavdhan actor will celebrate his birthday this year in style.
“Well, not really! The past one year, I was really busy with back to back shooting for Meri Pyaari Bindu, Bareilly Ki Barfi, and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, and then [their] back-to-back releases. Also, I’ve been doing lot of tours, concerts with my band, of late, so it was very hectic. But now, I’m taking it easy. For my birthday, I’ve planned a small weekend getaway in Lonavala with my wife and kids. It’s been a while I have not been out with them,” says Ayushmann.
When asked why there are no big birthday celebrations planned, for he’s just had two hit films and his friends from the industry must have expected a big party, the actor says he likes to keep it simple. “I’m a very simple person and I have very few friends from the fraternity. Most of my close pals are from theatre or are in Chandigarh. Even I, myself, hardly go for film parties. I only go for film screenings because being an outsider, I still have that excitement and high of watching a film before it releases,” he adds.
Stating that he gets to spend time with his family only on such special days, Ayushmann says, “So, for my birthday, I keep it within the family because I hardly get time to spend with them. I am a young parent and in my age, most of my contemporaries have time for family and relationships, so I make it a point to make the most of it. [Also], birthdays now are more special because my kids get to enjoy. So, it’s not me, who will cut the cake but my kids.”
Going down memory lane, the actor recalls having huge family get-togethers. Recalling his craziest birthday memory, Ayushmann laughs. “I treasured my first bicycle. I remember my father took me to this store and they didn’t have the red colour bicycle that I wanted to have. It was out of stock, so I got this yellow, really weird-looking bicycle, because I wanted to buy one on that day only. I was like, fir to birthday chala jayega ek hafte baad. So, I wanted it right then. Later, everyone made fun of it that it is so shit-colored,” the actor signs off.
