Remember Vijay Dinanath Chauhan from 1990 hit

Agneepath

? Amitabh Bachchan’s avatar of a stylish mafia don in the cult classic looks is set to wow again. If all goes well, audiences will see shades of Big B’s memorable role in Ram Gopal Varma’s next multi-starrer,

Department

.

In Ramu’s venture, Bachchan plays a gangster-turned-politician. “Already, Ramu has shared the idea with Mr Bachchan,” says a source close to the filmmaker. “Ramu wants a similar intensity and stern body language as Vijay Dinanath Chauhan for Big B’s character of an ex-gangster. They are yet to take a final call on the character sketch.”

Ramu, on his part, doesn’t want to reveal much yet. “I am in a shoot right now and regarding Mr Bachchan’s role, I can’t say much at this point,” he says. The maverick filmmaker has already hinted at how Big B’s character turns over a new leaf and yet has the same hard intensity as his character in

Agneepath

. Interestingly, Hrithik Roshan is already shooting for the remake of the original.

Although RGV remains silent on Big B’s characterisation, he discloses that

Department

is “like the other side of my film,

Company

.

Company dealt with the politics of an underworld organisation, while my new venture deals with the politics within the police world.”

At the same time, Ramu confirms that the finalised cast is Sanjay Dutt, Rana Daggubati, Kangna Ranaut, Raveena Tandon, Abhimanyu Singh and, of course, Big B. Over the past few days, speculations have been rife about the relationship status of the Bachchans and RGV.

It was suggested that things between him and Bachchans soured after the filmmaker reportedly sent text messages about Abhishek Bachchan and his performance in

Dum Maaro Dum

. But the filmmaker reacted stating his “relationship with the Bachchans is very sacred for me and will remain so.”
