He has done it seven times in the past, and he is at it once again! Bajrangi Bhaijaan is now Salman Khan’s 8th film to cross the coveted Rs 100 crore mark. And this time, Khan has raised the bar a few notches higher: Bajrangi Bhaijaan has gathered Rs 102.60 crore in, hold your breath, only three days. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the film’s weekend figures:
#BajrangiBhaijaan won hearts, acclaim... now emerges TRIUMPHANT at the BO. Fri 27.25 cr, Sat 36.60 cr, Sun 38.75 cr. Total: ? 102.60 cr.— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) July 20, 2015
This is the best first week returns for any Salman Khan film. Earlier, this tag was with Kick (2014) which had earned Rs 83.83 cr in its opening weekend.
The other Salman Khan films to cross the Rs 100-crore mark are Jai Ho, Ready, Dabangg, Dabangg 2, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger and Kick.
However, the all time record of the most commercially successful Hindi film in its first weekend is still with Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year (Rs 108.86 cr in three days), while Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 is a close second (Rs 107.61 cr in three days).
The game is not over yet as Salman’s Bajrangi act is getting positive reviews from all around and the film is riding high on a strong word-of-mouth publicity. It would be interesting to see if the film manages to etch its name in history books as Bollywood's biggest ever hit. This record is currently held by Aamir Khan’s PK with a life time collection of Rs 340.8 cr.
