The intimate scene between Barbara Mori and Hrithik Roshan that was deleted from the Indian release of Kites has returned in a completely different film; actually, two. A Beautiful Wife and Spanish Beauty, the English and Hindi versions of a Spanish movie called La Mujer De Mi Hermano (My Brother’s Wife), hit theatres across the country yesterday.

The scene where Mori goes topless in front of Roshan in the first half of Kites was removed from the version that was eventually released in India. Now, an entirely different story carries a scene similar to that and has managed to dupe the censor board.

According to Dhaval Gada, the co-producer of the film, the scene was crucial to the story. “It establishes the husband and wife’s dysfunctional relationship,” says Gada, adding, “It has been aesthetically shot and there’s no vulgarity, which you can see in the film yourself and that’s what our esteemed Censor Board also must have realised. That is why they cleared the scene.”

The original film, which was officially released in November 2005, is based on the novel by the same name writteb by journalist and TV show host Jaime Bayly. It has been directed by Ricardo de Montreuil and also stars Manolo Cardona, Christian Meier and Angélica Aragón.

Adds an official from Pen India on the condition of anonymity, “The rights had been bought long ago. But we have decided to pull the movie now.” However, industry sources claim that they had planned to release it with Mori’s former co-star Roshan’s Guzaarish in order to cash in on the hype created during Kites. The scene was part of Kites version that was released overseas.
