Bhansali to introduce new musicians
Filmmaker and judge Bhansali gives break to Nirmitee group from his music reality show in his upcoming film, My Friend Pinto.
Back in 2002, Sanjay Leela Bhansali introduced a fresh voice — Shreya Ghoshal in Devdas. Now, the master filmmaker is giving an opportunity to Nirmitee, which is one of the groups participating in the music reality show, X Factor on Sony. At the moment, they are among the top four on the show and are mentored by singers Sonu Niigaam, Shreya and filmmaker Bhansali.
Now, Bhansali is set to rope in the Nirmitee group for a special performance in his forthcoming movie, My Friend Pinto, starring Kalki Koechlin, Prateik and Shruti Seth. Music director Shamir Tandon of Traffic Signal (2007) and Page 3 (2005) fame is composing the music.
Sources say Bhansali is happy to have roped them in and feels the group has a lot of potential. So much so that the maverick director gets overwhelmed every time the group performs on X Factor.
When contacted, Bhansali confirms the news: “I am extremely delighted with Nirmitee’s progress on the show. So, I have decided to make them a part of My Friend Pinto. They have been really impressive. And I am confident Shamir, who is composing the film’s music, will showcase their talent like never before in the film.”
Nirmitee literally means creation, and the group have constantly proved themselves to the judges through their performances on the show. In their Mumbai auditions, they performed a retro song in their own style. My Friend Pinto is produced by Bhansali and will release on October 14. It has been directed by debutant Raaghav Dar. As for Nirmitee, the group of four is known for constantly innovating and giving a new touch to songs.
The band consists of 21-year-old Siddharth, 23-year-old Vian, 20-year-old Praneel and 21-year-old Ranjana. Students of Mumbai University, their sole aim is to make good music and also make their families and college proud.
