Amitabh Bachchan hasn’t shied away from playing challenging roles in the past. He’s portrayed characters such as 12-year-old progeria-struck Auro in Paa (2009) or the teacher of a blind-mute woman in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black (2005), with great versatility.
So it comes as no surprise that Bachchan has agreed to play another different role — the star plays a paralysed chess grandmaster in director Bejoy Nambiar’s upcoming film.
The thriller, which stars Farhan Akhtar in the lead, will be produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
Sources say that Bachchan’s character in the film will be confined to a bed as he is completely paralysed. He will be playing the teacher to Farhan’s character in the film.
Commenting on the development, an insider says, “After Farhan came on board, Bejoy expressed his desire to have Mr Bachchan in it as well. And when Bejoy met Mr Bachchan with the script, he immediately approved of the role.”
Bachchan confirms the news saying, “After Shoojit’s (Sircar; director) film, there will be Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s project. That will be at the end of the year with Farhan, and Bejoy Nambiar is directing it.”
Despite repeated attempts, Bejoy remained unavailable for comment.
