Back from wedding! Indian traditional events are so endearing, no matter which part of the country you are in... (sic)!” That’s what Amitabh Bachchan tweeted on returning from the wedding of actor Ram Charan Teja in Hyderabad on June 14. Teja plays Vijay — the role that made Bachchan a superstar in Prakash Mehra’s Zanjeer (1973) — in the remake.

Mehra had planned a sequel with Abhishek and his parents, but Bachchan says he was unaware of this. He tells us, “Prakashji’s son Amit is remaking it with Ram Charan and I wish them all the best. I’ve not heard what they are doing with the script, but both Apoorva Lakhia, who is directing the film, and Amit wanted me to play a part. I had to turn down the offer with regret.”

However, he’s confident of Teja: “He is the son of a dear friend and a legend, Chiranjeevi. I’m certain he will do a fine job.”
