Ranveer's animated digital series is called Blazing Bajirao.

The makers of an upcoming Bollywood period movie have created a series of animated films in an attempt to give the audience a glimpse into the life and times of Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao. This eight-part video project, which will be available to watch online next month, is part of the promotions of film-maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next, Bajirao Mastani. The animated digital series is called Blazing Bajirao.

According to Vaibhav Vishal, chief creative officer, Eros Now, the animated film has two purposes — one, to “educate the audience about Baji Rao and the socio-political cultural history of that era”, and second, to “make Baji Rao the hero that he must be for our young viewers”. “We want them to know how cool he was, and how amazingly he led his life,” he says.

Blazing Bajirao is a part of Bajirao Mastani's promotions.

The biggest challenge, as per the makers, was telling a story without sounding preachy or like they’re hard-selling the film. “We realised that the present-day audience might not like a simplistic approach. So, we have developed a grungy style, coupled with calendar art realism [for the videos]. We have got the best people in the business to do the animation, and the graphic style is unlike anything that has been seen before in any Indian series,” adds Vaibhav.
