Bollywood celebrities took to social media to express their condolences after the sudden demise of Gopinath Munde, the Union Rural Development minister of the new government, who died in a road accident in Delhi on Tuesday morning.
Actor Riteish Deshmukh tweeted, "Am shocked beyond words — apart from being a big leader for me Mundeji was my father’s closest friend — an unfathomable loss (sic)." Riteish is the son of late Vilasrao Deshmukh, former chief minister of Maharashtra.
Munde was an important leader in Maharashtra and won the 2014 Lok Sabha election to join Narendra Modi’s cabinet.
"Will miss his rare combination of admirable leadership skills with a down to earth yet vibrant personality (sic)," wrote filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar.
The tweet tributes went on all day.
Producer Ronnie Screwvala wrote, "Life has its own turns — and we do not always know what’ around the bend — RIP Gopinath Munde."
Writer Shobhaa De, however, got flak for her tweet, "How tragic... Burrey din aa gaye for the family," which many thought was in bad taste.
Tragic ! Gopinath Munde, a fine human being & leader has 'passed away'. The Nation mourns his loss.
