A skin show by Bollywood actors has always been a sure-shot way of grabbing eyeballs. The latest to jump on to the bikini bandwagon are Puja Gupta, who will be seen making her entry in Go Goa Gone wearing a two-piece suit, and Sasha Agha, who appears in the promo of Aurangzeb, clad in a black bikini.
Although their bikini scenes might look like a cakewalk given their toned bodies, the ladies say that they could be very challenging. “I was lucky enough to shoot my bikini sequence at the very end of the schedule. It gave me all the time to prepare my body. Since it’s my entry scene in the film, I wanted it to just be right,” says Pooja. Although these scenes seem to fit seamlessly into the film’s story, trade experts claim that they are strategically added only to create buzz. “Audiences love to see their favourite actresses in bikinis. Adding these scenes in the promos helps the makers get better footfalls in theatres. Filmmakers weave the scenes in a way that it goes with the flow of the story but it is primarily done to attract as many eyeballs as possible,” says Komal Nahta, trade analyst.
Another industry expert, Amod Mehra adds, “A woman flaunting her body in bikini is still seen as risqué in our society. So when filmmakers manage to persuade their leading actresses to do such a scene, people watch it with a lot of interest. Such scenes act as an added attraction for the viewers.”
In the past, many established actresses have worn bikinis on the big screen. Priyanka Chopra was seen in a golden bikini in Dostana (2008). Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma also sported bikinis in Tashan (2008), Cocktail (2012) and Badmaash Company (2010) respectively.
