Not a regular Khiladi film
Film: Special 26
Cast: Akshay Kumar (last seen in Khiladi 786; 2012), Kajal Aggarwal (last seen in Singham; 2011), Jimmy Shergill (last seen in Dangerous Ishhq; 2012)
Storyline: The film is inspired by the infamous real-life heist of 1987, where a group of men, posing as CBI officers robbed a jewellery store in Opera House, absconding with material worth lakhs. In this film, 26 con artistes carry out raids at businessmen and politicians’ homes.Hours before the film releases and a day before the reviews appear, here’s what you can expect from this week’s release(s)…
Neeraj Pandey (last directed A Wednesday, 2008)
Starring Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher, the film released amidst little fanfare, but went on to become one of the biggest sleeper hits of 2008. It received great critical acclaim.
MM Keeravani and Himesh Reshammiya
With this movie, Akshay Kumar also got the opportunity to join the list of actors who have sung songs for their films. The
soundtrack otherwise has nothing to go to town about.
The cast boasted of planning to visit the spot where the actual robbery took place.
As part of the promotions, Akshay Kumar was supposed to meet CBI officials and host a press conference too.
The film somehow hasn’t created that much of a buzz, probably because no one expects to see Akshay is a non-masala movie. Explains why the premise seems interesting.
Step Up Bollywood style
Film: ABCD – Any Body Can Dance
Cast: Prabhudheva (last made a special appearance in Oh My God; 2012) and Kay Kay Menon (last seen in Chaalis Chauraasi; 2012)
Storyline: A choreographer parts ways with the company that trained him. Gets back in touch with his dance roots and is reinvigorated by the local talent he spots in a bunch of young dancers. Here’s presenting the story of the proverbial underdogs.
Remo D’Souza (last directed Faltu, 2011)
His last film turned out to be a surprise success at the box-office. Jaccky Bhagnani, who made his unofficial comeback with the movie, also seemed to have earned some standing in the industry post the film.
A song trailer of the film showcases the
iconic song, ‘Muqabla’ that Prabhudheva is well-known for. The album has not produced any chart-topping
numbers so far.
The film is being touted as the first in its genre to be made in 3D. The makers had decided to perform to a song from the film at the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela in Allahabad; whether the gig happened or not, they didn’t publicise.
The film’s cast — comprising contestants from various dance TV shows — already has a fan base among the TV viewing
audience. It also stars Lauren Gottlieb of So You Think You Can Dance fame. Choreographer Ganesh Acharya has been roped in for a cameo.
The promo lives up to various Hollywood street dance films, but at the same time, packs in some serious talent. This will be a treat for those who enjoy watching dance videos of YouTube.
