Never-ending tales of ‘luv’
Director:
Vinnil Markan
Directorial debut
Apart from working on a documentary short film titled Going To School In India, he has previously worked as an associate director on Vivek Oberoi’s Prince (2010).

Music:
Sachin-Jigar
Atif Aslam makes a special appearance in the film for the song ‘Dil na jaane kyun’, which seems to have gained popularity. Aslam has contributed to three of the four tracks in the album.

Controversies/stunts:
The film was scheduled to release back in 2012, however it was delayed for reasons best known only to the producers. There has been no drama or controversies related to this movie.

Marketing/hype:
Vivek and Neha did their promotional rounds to market the film. However, there doesn’t seem to be any buzz surrounding the movie.

Our assessment:
Yet another one of those ‘luv’ stories that Bollywood loves making. But then, on the flipside, it’s not like it has threatening competition from Murder 3 either.

Film: Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story
Cast: Vivek Oberoi (last seen in Kismat Love Paisa Dilli; 2012) and Neha Sharma (last seen in Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum; 2012)
Storyline: A young gangster (Vivek) falls in love with the girl-next-door (Neha) amidst cardboard tables and comic situations. Until some dangerous looking old-school goon steps out of that famous jail gate often spotted in films, and stirs things up a bit.

Yet another murder miss‘tery’
Director:
Vishesh Bhatt
Directorial debut
Another one from the Bhatt clan makes his entry with this film. Producer Mukesh Bhatt’s son, Vishesh’s name has received mention a gazillion times with the family’s banner (called Vishesh Films). He has previously co-produced films like Woh Lamhe and Gangster (both 2006).

Music:
Pritam and Roxen (band)
Bhatt films usually produce memorable soundtracks. As a result, this soundtrack was compared to the previous installments’ music, which reportedly proved to be disappointing.

Controversies/stunts:
Emraan Hashmi made a swift exit from this film after delivering hits with the previous two movies. Vishesh reportedly said, “You all will not miss Emraan in the film as Randeep is perfect for this one (sic).” There was also some talk about the actors being comfortable with each other during these run-of-the-mill
‘intimate’ scenes. And of course, not to forget the poster of the film, which resembles the poster of Jennifer’s Body (2009).

Marketing/hype:
This film follows Murder (2004) and Murder 2 (2011), both of which were box-office successes. The actors of the film have been actively promoting the movie for the last few weeks.

Our assessment:
The first film in this franchise had less to do with the murder and more to do with Mallika Sherwat’s long legs. The second one was inspired by a popular South Korean film, Chaser (2008). Both worked at the box-office. This one hasn’t invited any claims of being plagiarised (yet), nor does it have any hot women. The promo, unfortunately, highlights some pretty bad acting and cheesy dialogue.

For the final verdict, look out for Anupama Chopra’s review tomorrow in the Watch & Listen page of  Hindustan Times’ Do! section.
