Come April 5, and Akshay Kumar will be seen exchanging blows with John Abraham in Housefull 2. But not many know that Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna’s famous on-screen fights have served as reference points for the three physical combats shown in the film.

Describing his action sequences as “raw and rugged”, director Sajid Khan says, “I have designed all the action sequences, and used fight scenes between Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna in 1970’s films like Amar Akbar Anthony, Parvarish and Khoon Pasina as inspiration.”

The director reveals he has paid attention to the minutest details, saying, “As kids, we’d count the number of punches Amitji or Vinod Khanna would throw. So, I gave John and Akshay an equal number,” he says.

“I haven’t used any special effects. Today, even a kid can point out fake stunt sequences,” he says. “It was his (Khan’s) dream to design such stunt sequences. And since both of us are crazy fans of Manmohan Desai and Prakash Mehra, there was no debate when he created those scenes," says producer Sajid Nadiadwala.

Action director Kawee Sirikhanaerut of Rambo fame has executed the fight sequences. “Akshay and John loved the action. Though they’d be tired, they never complained,” recalls Khan.
