Bollywood's love affair with khaki continues

Be it Salman Khan as Chulbul Pandey in Dabangg, Ajay Devgn’s portrayal of the fearless cop, Bajirao Singham, in Singham or Akshay Kumar’s outing as ACP Vikram Rathore in Rowdy Rathore, the men in the uniform have always ­fascinated Bollywood.
If a host of ­forthcoming Hindi films are anything to go by, B-town’s love for the police uniform only seems to be increasing. A lot of stars will be seen giving power-packed performances playing the character of a cop in their future films.
From the likes of actor Ajay Devgn, Vivek Oberoi, Emraan Hashmi or Govinda, to female stars such as Rani Mukerji and Swara Bhaskar, here’s a look at all those who will be ­donning the khaki suit.
Film: Mr. X
The actor will play a cop who locks horns with the system, against the injustice in society, in this sci-fi thriller directed by Vikram Bhatt. His character will be turning invisible, in parts, in the film.
The actor is playing a crime branch officer in her next film, Mardaani, her first big screen outing after ­marriage. Rani even met Mumbai Police crime branch chief Himanshu Roy as part of her research for the film, which is helmed by Pradeep Sarkar.
Akhtar is reportedly playing a cop in Rahul Dholakia’s directorial venture which also stars actor Shah Rukh Khan. Film’s ­producer Ritesh Sidhwani recently tweeted, “#Raees begins filming on 1st Nov with @iamsrk & @FarOutAkhtar (sic).”
Film: Singham Returns
The actor, who played the daring cop Bajirao Singham in filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Singham that released in the year 2011, will be reprising the role of the daredevil police officer in the film’s sequel. The film’s female lead, Kareena Kapoor Khan, will be portraying a Marathi Mulgi in the film, which is slated for release on Independence Day this year.
Film: Mumbai Saga
Actor Vivek Oberoi will play a cop in filmmaker Sanjay Gupta’s ­upcoming flick. While there are reports that Vivek’s role is inspired by senior police inspector and encounter ­specialist Vijay Salaskar who was gunned down during the Mumbai ­terror attacks, Gupta denies the claims.
The actor will be essaying the role of a cute traffic cop in Abbas Tyrewala’s film. She said, “My character Tarini is a cop by occupation but by personality she is a bit of a loser.” |
Film: Abhinay Chakra
Govinda will be seen donning khaki in his forthcoming home production. Talking about the same, Govinda said, “When director Deepankar Senapati ­narrated the subject to me, I felt I had to do it. I wanted to play this idealistic cop who lays a trap to catch the criminal.”
