Acclaimed actor Nandita Das’ recent remarks about Bollywood being unfriendly towards dark skin tones has made many from the fraternity react equally strongly. “I have been told that to play a particular character I will have to look fair so that I suit the character... It makes people lose their confidence. It’s a cause to think about and is worrying,” Nandita was recently quoted as saying to media.
Actor Sameera Reddy couldn’t agree more: “I’ve faced this all the time in Bollywood. It’s something we need to change intrinsically in the society.” Critically acclaimed filmmaker Onir has lashed out saying, “It is a racist, regressive attitude that must change.”
