He’s just two years old in the film industry, but Arjun Kapoor has already done five films. However, the actor has not taken up any new movies, so that he can completely focus on his current project — a film produced by his father Boney Kapoor and uncle Sanjay Kapoor.
In an interview, the 29-year-old explains his reasons.
At present, you have no film in the pipeline apart from the one with your father and uncle. Why?
It’s not just another film for me. It’s our family production. So, I want to be involved at every stage. I had decided long back that I won’t start shooting for any other film till this one hits theatres. |
Since you already have the experience of working as an assistant director, understanding production would have been easy for you.
Yes, in a way, I’m going back to my roots as an AD. Now that our first set of posters have come out, I am working on the trailer. I don’t want to miss out on the experience of being creatively involved in the project, including the conversations and discussions at the post production stage. I am totally focused.

Is it a special film for you for emotional reasons as well, since this is your first film with your father after your mother, Mona Kapoor’s death?
Of course, that goes without saying. I want to help Sanjay uncle and dad at every step. It’s not like they have forced me to do it; I am doing it on my own. Be it Amit (Sharma; director), dad or uncle, they are all more than happy with my involvement.
Would you do the same for any other film?
I guess no other producer would like so much involvement (smiles). I’m ready to involve myself in other films if anyone else wants it. But, for this film, I can’t behave like a star, who shoots for a film, then promotes it towards the end, and his work is over.
You have been linked with Sonakshi Sinha. Do rumours affect you?
It’s a part and parcel of the game. When you enter the industry, you are aware of such things.
How involved are your other family members, Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, with your career?
In a way, they are. After all, they are family. So, for example, Anil uncle saw the first poster of my film long before it came out and praised it. Sonam couldn’t see it since she is shooting in Karjat, but Rhea and Harsh loved it.
