Towards the end of the month, producers Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor plan to complete the casting of their first co-production, which will be a love story with a twist. Last checked, the romantic film, had not been titled. The only confirmed name on board so far, apart from the producers, is newbie director Akshay Roy.

The film was announced in December last year. News is that the producer duo from Dharma Productions and Balaji Telefilms respectively plan to cast either actor Katrina Kaif or Kareena Kapoor as their leading lady. According to industry insiders, the hero will be finalised only after the heroine has been chosen. Bring this up and Karan says, “We haven’t really begun casting but it’s true that we’ll start on it now, and hopefully complete that by the end of this month. As a policy, and as a professional ethic, it would be unfair on my part to comment on whom we are considering to play the lead roles. I can just promise that it won’t be newcomers or two-three film old actors. They will be top-of-the-line names.”

Ask him about when they plan to flag off the production and he says, “Till we don’t have our star faces, it would be difficult to say when we’re starting on production. But if we manage to close everything within the month, and get the right dates, the production will commence by the second- half of the year,” he adds.

The soap queen and the Koffee With Karan host had been toying with the idea of working together for a long time now. Karan says, “I’ve known Ekta for most of my life. We wanted to work together, but not till we found the right script. Now we have. And we’ll deliver our best.”
