Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, who has been involved in many social causes in the past, will soon build a centre that will provide shelter, education, food and healthcare to the daughters of Mumbai’s sex workers. Backed by the actor’s One Foundation, the new centre is part of an initiative called Set Beautiful Free. An announcement for the same will be made this week.
An insider close to the actor says, “The aim of the foundation is to look after the daughters of sex workers in Kamathipura (Mumbai’s red-light district), as well as those in other similar areas of Mumbai. Apart from housing, the centre will also look after the girls’ food and general well-being, education and vocational skills. They will also be given career guidance to turn them into well-rounded individuals who are capable of standing on their own feet.”
Vivek says that it is “heartbreaking to see these little angels being exploited and trafficked at such a young age instead of enjoying the innocence and security every child deserves”. “The cause of the girl child is close to my heart, and I have spent years working towards their upliftment through our foundation. We hope to nurture the girls under this campaign, and provide them a secure place to call home,” he adds.
