Arjun Rampal, who is playing a cop in filmmaker Prakash Jha’s Chakravyuh, reveals that the film, which is based on the Naxal movement across eastern and central India, is also about the bond of friendship.
“This is an extremely topical film as it’s set against the backdrop of Naxalism, yet, it’s a beautiful story about two friends,” says Arjun. Actor Abhay Deol plays the role of his friend in the film.
Unlike his recent hits —RA.One (2011) and Rajneeti (2010) — where he played grey to dark shaded characters, Arjun plays the role of an honest police officer in Chakravyuh.
“He is strict and loyal, a man who has strong ideological beliefs and wants to do something for society,” says Arjun, adding, “It’s a tough film. I hope the audience doesn’t see Arjun Rampal but Adil Khan, the cop, when the go to watch the film. If they see Arjun, I would have failed disastrously.”
Arjun will also play Sher Khan in Apoorva Lakhiya’s remake of the cult film Zanjeer (1973). But he chose to remain tight lipped about the role, which was played by veteran actor Pran in the original. “I am not allowed to speak about the character right now. But I will start working on the project soon after I finish Chakravyuh,” he says.
Meanwhile, the actor will soon walk the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival with his wife Mehr Jesia. He isn’t ruling out the possibility of networking for international projects at the festival. “This is a great platform to build bridges between the two industries. It may result in creating something very special for the future,” says Arjun.
The actor is yet to decide whether to wear a traditional desi outfit or to go for western wear. “I haven’t given it much thought, I’m still toying with the idea. However I do know that my wife will be wearing Tarun Tahiliani,” he says.
