After revelling in the success of her first release this year — Cocktail — actor Deepika Padukone has now shifted her focus to her next film — Ayan Mukerji’s Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (YJHD). The actor, who has resumed shooting for the movie in which she’s paired opposite former boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor, plays a character called Naina in the coming-of-age romance.

“I’ve had a good time shooting with the team. Ranbir has evolved immensely as an artiste and is a fabulous co-star. I observe him on the sets; he’s so involved with every scene,” says Deepika, adding, “It’s always a pleasure to work with friends and learn while working with them.”

Ever since reports revealed that the two will be starring in the film, the industry has been abuzz with anticipation. Most people are wondering whether the duo will be able to recreate the chemistry that was apparent in their first film together, Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008).

Deepika Padukone-Ranbir Kapoor.

“Ranbir and I understand that; but we don’t feel the pressure to make our on-screen chemistry work. We’re aware of the speculations around our reel romance. We don’t let it affect us,” she says. “And because we are not paying heed to anything apart from our work, the chemistry will be great.”

The actors first met on the sets of the 2008 film, following which they were in a relationship for a year before they parted ways.

Reportedly, after finishing the current schedule of YJHD in Mumbai, most of the cast and crew will head to Argentina for the next one. However, Deepika will not be joining them. “As of now, we’re focussing on completing our scenes together in Mumbai,” she says, “Cocktail’s success is a high. Everyone on the sets of YJHD congratulated me.”
