After waiting for 16 years to make the film Mehrunissa, Nikhil Advani had to back out as its producer. While Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor and Chitrangda Singh will be seen playing significant roles in the film, Nikhil apparently walked away as he didn’t want Chitrangda to be part of the project.

It seems that many other names were discussed to replace the actor. “There are creative differences between Sudhir (Mishra, director) and Nikhil. They talked about other actors to replace Chitrangda. Though Sudhir is open to different ideas, he felt that she will fit the part best,” says an insider.

Apparently, Nikhil had even approached Priyanka Chopra for the film. “He had discussed the script with Priyanka. But Sudhir always felt that Chitrangda is perfect. So, things did not turn out the way Nikhil wanted,” says a source close to the film’s team.

However, Nikhil denies the allegations and mentions that he had no time to focus on Mehrunissa. “First of all, I backed out of the project as I had to start shooting for D-Day. Thus, I had no time to completely concentrate on Mehrunissa, which was supposed to go on the floors then. Sudhir and I discussed the matter and I backed out amicably,” says Nikhil.

Now, the film is being co-produced by Mishra and Shahnaab Alam. “Sudhir is passionate about the film. When everyone pulled out, even then he was still trying to make it. That is when I came on board as a producer. Sudhir is also co-producing and we will have a third partner. But, I am not sure whether Sudhir will take the credit as a producer or not,” says Shahnaab.
