Here's what you need to know about Rowdy Rathore.

Film: Rowdy Rathore

Cast:
Akshay Kumar (last acted in Housefull 2) and Sonakshi Sinha (last acted in Dabangg, 2010)

Plot:
Conman Kumar dupes women into falling in love with him, until he meets Rajo Pandey… err… we mean Priya? Then miraculously, he finds himself in the midst of some twin drama and heavy duty action sequences. He also saves a village or something.

Director: Prabhudheva (last directed Wanted, 2009)
He last directed Salman Khan’s action-packed box-office hit, Wanted. The film marked the actor’s return to the action genre in a big way.

Music: Sajid-Wajid
Apart from the song ‘Chin ta ta’, the album hasn’t received the best reviews, and isn’t topping too many charts. The composers also worked on Dabangg (just saying).

Controversies
Sonakshi Sinha has been compared with various Chikni Chamelis and Chammak Challos. The first few trailers were compared to Dabangg for the similarity in certain scenes and the actors’ appearances. Producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali roped in hand-painted poster artists for the film’s promotional art. Oh yes, and this apparently marks Akshay’s return to the action films.

Marketing/hype
Makers organised an auto rickshaw race to promote their film. Apparently, the drivers, who were made to wait all day, weren’t treated too well. Tsk tsk… what’s that saying? Don’t burst the bubble you live in? Or was it ‘don’t dig your own grave by dissing your audiences’? Never mind.

Our assessment
Producer Bhansali was recently quoted as saying, “I wanted to do something that would appeal to the man on the streets and in the chawls.” We’ll let you imagine what this one will be like. The film is releasing in a record 2,600 screens in India and 200 abroad. Poor film addicts might just not be able to escape this one.
