Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone is ready with her concrete plan to fight depression. Padukone, who made headlines for revealing that she was a victim of depression, says it’s a major health issue in the country, and needs to be addressed.
“The fight against depression is a cause very close to my heart, and is one of the largest health issues the country is facing today. Having experienced depression in the recent past, I realise how difficult it’s to recognise the problem, find information and get the right kind of professional help,” says Deepika.
The actor recently launched the logo of The Live Love Laugh Foundation, her non-profit organisation dedicated to addressing the issue of mental health in India. She says the logo is based on the idea of hope and freedom.
“Through this platform, I hope others get the same kind of help that I had got. My team and I are working hard on it and the logo launch is a small step in that direction,” says Deepika, who had first spoken about her plans to set up a foundation in an interview with a news channel. The 29-year-old then decided to start a non-profit organisation that would increase awareness about mental health as an issue, reduce the stigma around it and enable support to people affected by those issues.
