Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s National Award win has come at the most opportune time. He won the Best Director award for his magnum opus Bajirao Mastani. Around the same time, his Bajirao Mastani actors, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone, took off to the West to start work on their Hollywood debuts. Bhansali cast Deepika in two of his films and produced Priyanka-starrer Mary Kom, and he is definitely proud of their achievements. Priyanka is working with Dwayne Johnson in Baywatch and Deepika is working with Vin Diesel in xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.
“Deepika and Priyanka are achievers. They are both wonderful women and will always hold a special place in my heart. They’re young and committed. They think differently and are sharp and that is what makes the difference,” he says, adding, “Of course, it’s a given that they’re exceptionally talented and beautiful. They’ve achieved success here and I am praying for them to be successful in the West as well. They’re special to me and I hope they become very successful in the West as well,” he says.
Talking about his National Award win, Bhansali says that though he is happy, he will never stop wanting another award. “This is special because it is the government that is acknowledging your work and celebrating it. I consider every award important but this is like a jewel in the crown.”
