After the stupendous success of the Aamir Khan Productions’ adult comedy Delhi Belly, the writer of the film, Akshat Verma, is taking a step forward to wield the megaphone. UTV Motion Pictures has joined hands with Akshat for his first directorial venture.

A spokesperson from the studio revealed that the production house is elated to have the young writer on board for the comic thriller, with which he will soon make his directorial debut. Akshat, who has already begun work on the script, confirmed the news: “I’m charged and excited to be working on a new story. I will be making the film with UTV.”

Delhi-based Akshat, who has studied film at the University of California, Los Angeles, made his debut as a screenwriter in Bollywood with Delhi Belly and received a lot of critical acclaim for the same.

The film that was directed by ad man-turned-director Abhinay Deo starred Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunaal Roy Kapur in the lead roles. A source close to Akshat reveals that he is more than eager to make his directorial debut with the same trio and has already approached them for the same.

However, on being asked, Akshat says, “I have no idea if there is going to be any character reunion.” His directorial is not a sequel to Delhi Belly, that hit theatres alongside Amitabh Bachchan’s Buddah Hoga Terra Baap on July 1 this year.

Even with an ‘A’ certificate, the film got the cash registers ringing in no time. Apart from a surprise item number by Aamir — Disco Fighter… — it also saw American actor Poorna Jagannathan make her Bollywood debut. Model-turned-actor Shenaz Treasury played the part of Imran’s love interest in the film.
