Bollywood couldn’t have had it better. While on one hand, Hollywood superstar Nicole Kidman signed up on Saturday to star in a film produced and financed by Yash Raj Films Entertainment, actor Aamir Khan was approached for Leonardo DiCaprio’s role in the desi remake of Hollywood blockbuster, Inception.
In a first for the Indian film industry, Yash Raj Films Entertainment, the international arm of the production house managed by former actor Uday Chopra, has joined hands with French filmmaker Pierre-Ange Le Pogam to produce and finance Grace of Monaco, featuring Hollywood star Nicole Kidman.
“Grace... is the kind of movie that has a perfect blend of talent and sensibility that YRF Entertainment is proud to be a part of. We look forward to a great partnership with Olivier and Pierre-Ange,” said Chopra, about the film that will go on the floors this fall in southern France. The announcement was made during the ongoing Film Festival at Cannes.
As Uday Chopra announced the news on Twitter, he was flooded with congratulatory messages. “When Olivier and I met with Nicole Kidman for the first time, we immediately felt that she was the right artist to portray Princess Grace. When I then met with Uday, I had the same feeling after our conversation. He was obviously the right partner because of his beautiful vision of the movie,” Le Pogam said in a statement.
Actor Aamir Khan, on the other hand, is set to act in the desi remake of Inception. Filmmaker Shirish Kunder is working on a film similar to Leonardo DiCaprio’s 2012 hit. Sources confirm that he’ll be sending the bound script to Khan for Leo’s role and is awaiting a nod. “Shirish feels that Aamir is the best choice for this intricate character,” says an insider close to Kunder.
When contacted, Kunder said, “My film deals with the human mind, but right now, it’s too early to reveal anything else.”
With Nicole kidman working with Yash Raj, has Bollywood truly arrived?
