Despite receiving flak from the critics, the Deol home production - Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 managed to rake a decent collection at the box office in first weekend.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#YPD2 collected Rs. 22.25 cr to 22.50 cr nett in its opening weekend. Fri Rs. 7.50 cr, Sat Rs. 6.50 cr, Sun Rs. 8.25 cr to Rs. 8.50 cr.
Delhi-based distributor Joginder Mahajan said that YPD 2 is doing well in single screens, but business is not overwhelming in the multiplexes.
Produced under the Deols' banner Vijyata Films, the cast has National Award winning actors Annu Kapoor and Anupam Kher as well as Neha Sharma, Christina Akheeva, Sucheta Khanna and Johnny Lever.
Deols are known to be a big draw in Punjab, but Jaspal Dhingra of Nanaksar Enterprises from the state said: "YPD 2 is not doing a good business. It's a very average film as compared to the first one. The quality of the film is not good."

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani to affect Yamla Pagla Deewana 2?
No one expected Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD) to become the biggest blockbuster of the year so far. And now the biggest casualty of past Friday's windfall would be this Friday's big-ticket release for the Deol parivar's collective effort Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (YPD2) . Both the Deol brothers Sunny and Bobby desperately need a success, and papa Dharmendra has gone out of his way to promote the film.
Says a source very close to Dharamji, "Left to himself, Dharamji wouldn't have done this much promotion for the film. But YPD2 is critical to Sunny and Bobby's careers. Neither has seen a success in years. Dharamji has been seen doing things he has never done for his own career, like doing a jig at a press conference. But what to do? Anything for the sons."
