Dibakar Banerjee, set to co-produce films with YRF, promises to stay true to his style of cinema.
What do you expect when indie darling Dibakar Banerjee comes together with commercial films powerhouse Yash Raj Films (YRF)?
Dibakar, who has recently signed a three-film co-production deal with YRF, makes sure that this tie-up does not compel him to deviate from making his kind of films.
“There is absolutely no compromise. YRF makes their own films and no one can dictate terms to them. They have a strong vision and so do I. Only two strong people can tolerate each other’s strong visions. We are coming together to marry our unique visions,” says Dibakar.
The director, who is known for medium budget, critically acclaimed films like Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006), Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008), LSD: Love, Sex Aur Dhokha (2010) and Shanghai (2012), has made sure that he and YRF executives don’t get into each other’s comfort zones while signing the deal.
“Dibakar Banerjee Productions (DBP) and YRF come with their complementary assets and we want to do truly different cinema,” the director says.
Ask him how this co-production will help him otherwise, and he says, “The kind of reach, clout and experience YRF has in marketing, production and distribution, is the kind of asset I will have access to.”
The filmmaker’s co-production will start with writer Kanu Behl’s directorial debut, followed by his own ventures. “Kanu’s film is definitely on its way. We are still planning when we are going to start working on the three films that I am involved with,” he says.
