Shah Rukh Khan is running ahead of Deepika Padukone in the box office race of Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani.

As the box office battle between Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale and Deepika Padukone’s Bajirao Mastani continues, the Rohit Shetty film is clearly running ahead of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie. While the Shah Rukh Khan starrer crossed the Rs.100 crore mark worldwide in its opening weekend, the historical drama, featuring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, minted Rs.91 crore.

Dilwale collected Rs 121 crore in its opening weekend worldwide. The domestic business stands at Rs.65.09 crore while the film made $8.5 million (approximately Rs.56 crore) from the overseas market.

On the other hand, Bajirao Mastani collected Rs 90.80 crore in three days. “Bajirao Mastani ended the opening weekend on a big high collecting Rs 90.80 crore worldwide -- Rs 60.80 crore gross (Rs 46.77 crore net box office collection) in India and Rs 30 crore (USD 4.5 million) overseas,” Eros International said in a statement.

Starring Shah Rukh, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in pivotal roles, Dilwale is receiving a hearty response abroad, trade analyst Komal Nahta said. “Dilwale Overseas: Gulf - biggest ever opening for a Bollywood film, and the number one film this weekend, higher than Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and other films,” Nahta posted on Twitter.

The collection of Bajirao Mastani witnessed a good hike over the weekend and the film is going strong in theatres with positive word of mouth, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh. “#BajiraoMastani is unstoppable. Super word of mouth translates into super biz. Friday Rs.12.80 crore, Saturday Rs.15.52 crore, Sunday Rs.18.45 crore. Total: Rs.46.77 crore,” trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

As both films are made on a budget of over Rs.100 crore, the coming days would be crucial for them in theatres. Considering there are no Hindi releases for next two weeks, there would be little competition for Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani on Christmas and January 1, so they will have sufficient time to prove their mettle.

Eros released Bajirao Mastani on December 18 across 3,000 screens worldwide and expects the showcasing to further increase to meet demand in the next week. Dilwale, on the other hand, released across approximately 4000 screens.
