In last year’s hit, Cocktail, she played Saif Ali Khan’s loveable Punjabi mother and, since then, Dimple Kapadia has kept away from the big screen. Now, she has agreed to do Homi Adajania’s next, Finding Fanny Fernandes. Incidentally, it will be the veteran actor’s first film after the demise of her superstar husband Rajesh Khanna last year (he passed away five days after the release of Cocktail on July 13).
“Dimpleji shares a special relationship with Homi after working with him in his first two films — Being Cyrus (2006) and Cocktail. Plus, the script of the film is interesting,” says an industry insider. Homi’s next is an English-Konkani short film that will also star Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah.
Although Homi’s film has several big names starring in it, all the characters are integral to the plot. And that’s why Dimpleji has agreed to do it. She will be seen playing a Goan in the film. It will be a different kind of part for her,” says the insider.
As for Homi’s project, just like his past films, it will be backed by Saif Ali Khan and Dinesh Vijan’s production firm. The film is most likely to go on the floors around October and will be wrapped up in a start-to-finish schedule. This will be the first project that Dimple has signed up since the death of her superstar husband Rajesh Khanna, last year. Neither Saif nor Dinesh could be reached for a comment.
