Actor-director Kunal Roy Kapur, one among the trio in the recent hit Delhi Belly, is awed by the response that the adult comedy has received. But he says his next won’t be an acting assignment as he is keen to continue directing. “I’m hoping to direct a little more. My next project would be as a director. I am in talks with a few producers and hopefully, the film will start by end of this year,” adds the 28-year-old, who made his directorial debut with the movie The President Is Coming in 2009.
“I’m more interested in directing. When really good roles come my way and I like them very much, only then will I act,” says Kunal, who made his debut as an actor in the TV soap Just Mohabbat in 2000. Did he expect Delhi Belly to be such a grand success? “It hasn’t sunk in as yet. Honestly, most of us don’t know how to react,” he says. “When we were shooting the movie, we expected it to be much smaller than what it is today. We thought of it to be a niche English film, with a little bit of Hindi. In metros, we have bilingual societies, which really worked in the film’s favour,” he added.
With Siddharth Roy Kapur, producer and chief executive officer of UTV Motion Pictures as his older brother, it was assumed he would produce the film, but Kunal rules out that option altogether. “I’m not approaching Siddharth. We keep our personal relations and professional life as separate as possible,” he said.
