Ek Thi Daayan has failed to make much of a presence, at least box office reports indicate that.

The film collected approx Rs 18.07 crore in its opening weekend, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Monday.

Taran wrote on Twitter, "#EkThiDaayan collected approx Rs 18.07 cr in its opening weekend. Breakup: Fri 6.24 cr, Sat 5.63 cr, Sun 6.20 cr."

The joint venture of Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj was much appreciated for the performances of the lead actors Emraan Hashmi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Kalki Koechlin and Huma Qureshi.

Ek thi Daayan ended up collecting around Rs 6.24 crore on the first day of its release. The earnings slipped to Rs 5.63 crore on Saturday.

The film made a small rise in its collections with Rs 6.20 crore on Sunday. But the total collection for the first weekend remains as low as Rs 18.07 crore.

Ek Thi Daayan goes wrong in second half, writer Kannan agrees

Ek Thi Daayan director Kannan Iyer agrees with the critics who feel the second-half of the film has gone wrong.

The soft spoken and thoughtful director, who waited ten years to make his directorial debut says, "Maybe commercial considerations coloured the second movement of the storytelling.  To me, the core of the story in Ek Thi Daayan is the relationship between the children and their stepmother who they think might be a witch. I was not interested in the horror or the supernatural elements per se. It was the inherent drama in the theme that interested me. It's always the drama that grips me." FULL STORY

Critics' review: Ek Thi Daayan is a blend of horror, psycho thriller
A magician (Emraan) with a disturbing past is haunted by a mysterious daayan (witch). Singing Punjabi songs, making out in tents, he is happily in love with his wife (Huma), when a suspicious Lisa Dutt (Kalki) enters his life.

Kannan Iyer's directorial debut is all set to rush his journey towards success on the the new path. Kannan's storytelling is lucid and graspable. Based on Mukul Sharma's short story, Ek Thi Daayan, is getting mixed reviews.

There is little to complain about the screenplay, direction and acting in Ek Thi Daayan, it seems. The film is an apt adaptation of old-school, native folklores of witches and witchcraft. Ek Thi Daayan is a cult horror film, claim the makers. The second half, however, is being criticized. Now, as critics review begin to pour in, we bring you an insight into the movie.
