Ekta Kapoor’s rise in showbiz is no secret. That’s probably why Minissha Lamba took inspiration from her to play a straightforward media executive in Bheja Fry 2. While preparing for her role of Ranjini in the sequel to the 2007 hit, Minissha kept the TV czarina in mind.
"I watch and read a lot of Ekta’s interviews. In fact, she had made a very important statement in an interview that stuck with me. She had said that, ‘People only look at my success, but what they don’t see is the five years of hard work that have gone into it’," says Minissha. The actor accepts that she is a huge fan of Ekta, saying she represents "a powerful woman in a man’s world."
One of a kind
But Minissha adds that she hasn’t tried to copy Ekta because she is unique. "I have always found the story of a woman trying to make it big in a male-dominated sphere inspiring," she says. She goes on to add that she dedicates her character — of a girl who has great talent, vision, dedication and the strength to work in a field that was only fraught with challenges — to Ekta.
“Today, the world sees only her success story, but I wanted to try and bring to life a person with the right ideals and a vision along with a dream to make it big,” adds Minissha. Ask Ekta about being Minissha’s inspiration for the role and she says: “Minissha is a very sweet girl. Obviously, I am very humbled and honoured with the piece of news. It’s a special feeling.”
