After Vidya Balan’s bold avatar in The Dirty Picture hit the bull’s eye at the box office, producer Ekta Kapoor and director Milan Luthria are working on the sequel to Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, for which they plan to create a character that’s an Absolute Anti-thesis To Silk.
“Ekta, Milan and writer Rajat Aroraa are clear that they don’t want another Silk kind of character in the sequel. So, the female protagonist will be calmer and more innocent as compared to what Vidya’s character was. They have worked on the character sketch diligently,” says a member of the pre-production team.
For some time, talks have been rife that Kareena Kapoor will be playing the female lead. But no official confirmation has come in yet. Nonetheless, it’s believed that she will reprise the role of erstwhile bold actor Mandakini.
When contacted, Ekta says “Milan loves Kareena. She has an amazing spark with a lot of innocence. Rajat and Milan want to create a young and innocent girl that’s an absolute anti-thesis to Silk Smitha, who speaks with her eyes. The female protagonist will be the kind of a girl who two very powerful men will willingly die for.”
Although industry insiders suggest Kareena is on for the part, she is still waiting for the final narration of the story, before she takes a call.
The much-hyped sequel apparently introduces Mandakini as a character because of the actor’s romantic association with don Dawood Ibrahim the central character in the film.
Akshay Kumar will play the part of Ibrahim in the film, which is likely to start mid-next year.
