Emraan Hashmi’s fans in the capital were in for a big surprise recently. The actor was shooting for Jannat 2 in the narrow lanes of old Delhi, which didn’t permit his vanity van to enter.
As a result, local residents, whose homes border the location, had to come to the rescue. “Since the roads can barely fit two or three vehicles, parking the van was impossible. When the residents saw that the crew and cast had no place to rest, they offered to host us,” says Emraan, who during his stay gorged on home-cooked food and local delicacies. “I love Delhi food anyway, that was the icing on the cake. Who gets home-made food on a film set?”
The Murder (2004) actor, who apparently has a significant fan following in north India, also got some firsthand feedback from some unexpected quarters.
“It was very kind of them to tell me what work of mine they liked. They didn’t stop at that, they went on to tell me about my movies and performances they didn’t like,” says the actor, who over the duration of the shooting schedule managed to cover quite a few houses in the locality. “Some of them had watched Jannat, so they were pretty thrilled that the next was being shot in their neighbourhood,” he says.
Emraan admits that he prefers accidental interactions such as these when it comes to getting feedback as opposed to sit-down meetings organised after formal trial shows. “My friends and family mostly say nice things and very few criticise my performances, but these people are honest,” he says.
The actor, who will be seen opposite Esha Gupta in the Mahesh Bhatt production, has also just started filming Raaz 3 with Bipasha Basu. “I’m pretty much shooting all year this time. I wish the year had 500 days,” he smiles.
