A promise to strip for Indian cricket team, has finally landed bikini sensation Poonam Pandey a Bollywood role. She's making a promise again! The starlet says that her debut film with Jism director Amit Saxena is a coming-of-age tale, something that people have not seen before. We take her word for it. She did deliver what she had promised in her Twitter stint (a series of steamy videos, bikini pics and even topless snaps).
"I've rejected 30 offers. But there was something very special about this movie. I have heard several story narrations, but this story was unique. I am sure people have not seen something like this before. My character is extremely interesting."
So what's so unique about the storyline? "It's going to change people's mindset. It will change the way people think about Bollywood. It's radically different from the way films are being made here. I would say, it's not a normal story of a-boy-meets-girl-and-they-fall-in-love genre. It's a very different story."
Ask her if the film will have explicit scenes, the starlet replies in affirmative. "The bold scenes are shot in a very classy way. If I'm there, there is bound to be exposure. I have stepped into glam business with a bold image so why would I shy away from doing hot scenes in Bollywood."
Ask her about the offers she has rejected so far, the 21-year-old laughs and says, "There were many item songs, south movies, Bollywood movies and a lot of reality shows."
The lady is extremely excited about working with Jism director Amit Saxena.
"Amit Saxena is a wonderful director. People know him by his previous work (Jism). It's my pleasure that I'm making a debut with him. It's really a big deal for me."
Poonam, however, declares that her upcoming film will be bolder than Jism. "When Jism came, it was path breaking for the audience at that time. The movie that I'm doing now is a coming-of-age movie for today's audience," says the model-turned-actor.
Though Poonam has signed a movie now, she had started preparing for her Bollywood journey well in advance.
"People don't sign you just like that. You need to have some talent. I would not survive in this industry without proper training. I planned to come to this industry long back, during my modeling days."
Poonam zeroed in on the film because she was blown away by the script.
"When I came out after hearing the story narration of this film, I felt like I have watched a movie. Most of the times, story narration does not have this kind of impact. The best part about this movie was its script. I felt it was the best part for my debut."
For those who don't know, Poonam Pandey is a movie buff. By her own admission, she makes it a point to watch all the movies that hit the theatres. So when we ask her if she has seen Paoli Dam's Hate Story, she says she's looking forward to watching it.
"I've seen the trailer and I will watch that movie. It's not just because it's a bold film. I love to watch every movie that releases. In fact, I'll also watch Vicky Donor. I love watching movies."
Poonam Pandey has not one but many role models in Bollywood. Madhuri, Kajol and Sridevi are her favourite actresses. In the new crop, Kareena Kapoor is her favourite. But when it comes to item songs, Poonam Pandey changes her loyalty to Katrina Kaif.
"I love Chikni Chameli (laughs). Hats off to Katrina for doing that song! She's not an Indian, but the way she has performed... the song is marvellous. Her expressions are so Indian. The way she has used her eyes is remarkable. I mean Indian people can do it, but somebody who's coming from abroad does it, it's a big thing."
Clashing with Sunny Leone's Jism 2 and comparisons
"Yes, my film is releasing around Jism 2. If people compare me with Sunny, I cannot stop their thinking. There are bound to be comparisons. But at the end of the day, your work will speak."
On Sunny Leone
"She's perfect for Jism 2. She deserves the role. Bollywood is very big. Everyone has a scope to do something."
On offbeat roles
"You cannot stick to one thing. I am new as an actress. I would love to experiment with all kind of roles."
Dirty Picture, my favourite
"I would have liked to work in The Dirty Picture. It's my favourite."
The Poonam Pandey Bollywood film is going on the floors in May.
