Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, who has already created a stir with the slick trailers of his Don sequel, had graciously sought permission from screenplay writer Salim Khan before shooting its remake in 2006 with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. Salim had jointly written the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don with Farhan’s father Javed Akhtar.
Farhan now hopes Salim will extend his blessings to the sequel as well. “I had gone to request him for the permission to make the film. I thought it was important to take permission from the people who have earlier worked on it. He was happy with the remake we had made. Hope that applies to the sequel as well,” says Farhan.
His father too gives his valuable inputs in every film Farhan makes. He says, “Dad is extremely experienced and very good with art and craft of writing. Fortunately, I have this kind of access to him.”
Farhan plans to treat the audience by converting Don 2 into 3D. It may not match the quality of a film shot with a 3D camera but he is happy that the conversion has come close to it. “It’s not shot in 3D. It has been transformed after the shoot. We thought it would be nice to give the audience a different feel,” says Farhan adding, “Given all the freedom and limitations, the translation that has been done is really, really good.”
