Actor Salman Khan's recent announcement that he will be doing a film with sister Alvira and brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri, has added to the list of stars working with family. While actor Shahid Kapoor will be seen alongside his father, Pankaj Kapur and sister Sana in his upcoming film, Shaandaar, actor Huma Qureshi is working with her brother Saqib Saleem in the Bollywood adaptation of Hollywood film Oculus (2013). Actor Sonam Kapoor will also be doing a cameo in her brother Harshvardhan's debut film, Mirzya.
Trade analyst Omar Qureshi says that this trend has ensured that actors prioritise these projects. "It is easier to make films within the family as actors often priorities these films in terms of dates. It is also easier to get them on board," he says.Film distributor Rajesh Thadani says that this trend helps newcomers who are being launched alongside established actors from their families. "This works well for star siblings. Shahid is launching his sister in his film. This will give her an edge over others," he says.
Sonam Kapoor will soon be seen working alongside her brother Harshvardhan in his debut film, Mirzya, directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. (AFP) It is also a win-win for the star, who does not have to reduce pay even while working within the family. "For an actor like Salman who has often worked in films produced by Atul and his brother Arbaaz (Khan), he cannot reduce the money he charges as he has already sold the satellite rights of his next 10 films two years back. But filmmakers often add the current market value of the actor to the overall budget of the film, which in turn is paid by the studio producing it," explains trade analyst Atul Mohan.

Actors say that they enjoy these projects because of the comfort level of working with their kin. "The most beautiful thing (about working in Shaandaar) was that I got an opportunity to act with my dad," Shahid was quoted as saying.
