More student organisations have come in support of the students of Film and Television Institute of India. Over 200 students protesting the appointment of actor and BJP member Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman of FTII were detained on Friday by the Delhi Police.
Besides students from FTII, others from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University and Delhi Technological University also joined in the protest.
They held a demonstration outside the ministry of information and broadcasting at Shastri Bhavan here.
"FTII is being saffronised and people close to the BJP are being appointed as heads of cultural and art institutions," said Kisley, a FTII student.
Police said the detained were taken to the Parliament Street police station.
"This is to ensure that the protest does not go out of hand," an official said.
The students also demanded that the FTII governing council should be reconstituted.
The students of the institute earlier went on an indefinite strike, saying that Chauhan's appointment was politically motivated.
