Iss liye log mujhe baap nahin dada kehte hain
— that’s cricketer Saurav Ganguly’s concluding dialogue in his first film video, that has become the rage online.
Titled Ganguly - The Movie, the video was uploaded on YouTube a week ago, and has already been viewed 4,55,000 times. Produced by health firm Apollo Munich, the short film — the first in a series — has a roaring tiger to set the Bengal Tiger metaphor, colourful 60s style credits and shows Dada speaking dramatically about his career’s ups and downs between field scenes and ones shot noir-style in adark room.
“Sourav’s life has been no different from a Bollywood potboiler and so the trailer befits,” says Antony Jacob, CEO, Apollo Munich.
“But besides these webisodes, which we will be launching over a period of time, a documentary on Ganguly called The Warrior Prince will be released widely, including on the big screen,” he says.
Some fans are pleased, some not. Poonam Mathur, 24, says, “Ganguly can still beat anyone be it at cricket or acting. I love the video.”
Abhinav Kumar, 23, says, “Acting is not Dada’s cup of tea. He’d better concentrate on the game.” Prithvie, another fan, reacts, “It’s okay to switch roles to coach, adviser, but not acting, please!”
