Genelia D'souza has decided to opt out of the Abhishek Bachchan and Ajay Devgn starrer Bol Bachchan, despite being asked to stay on board. The reason for Genelia's sudden exit was her presumably 'insignificant role'.
After Zameen, Rohit Shetty will once again be directing his favourite Ajay Devgn, alongwith Abhishek Bachchan in the film which is a remake of Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Golmaal.
While Abhishek will be playing Amol Palekar's role in the original film, Ajay Devgn will have to fill in the shoes of Utpal Dutt, whose performance as Bhawani Shankar is still widely considered a benchmark. Genelia was supposed to play the role Bindiya Goswami essayed but backed out because she thought it was inconsequential to the film.
"When she read the script, Genelia felt that she didn’t have a very significant role in the film. But that is with most of Shetty’s films - either they are too crowded or they are male-centric," a source told Mumbai Mirror.
However, a source close to Genelia said: "Her dates are clashing with Navdeep Singh’s film, starring Abhay Deol. She had to choose one."
Needless to say, Shetty was rather taken aback by the actor’s decision and tried very hard to convince her to stay on-board. However, after the actor seemed persistent on her decision, it seems that Shetty has offered the role to Prachi Desai.
"Shetty spoke to Prachi, who instantly agreed to step into Genelia’s shoes," added the source. When contacted, both Genelia and Prachi remained unavailable for comment.
The Golmaal connect
Not only is Rohit Shetty directing a remake of Golmaal, he is also the director of the Ajay Devgn starrer Golmaal series. Interestingly, every film that Shetty has directed so far has starred Ajay Devgn in it. Well, it seems like Shetty loves the title Golmaal almost as much as he loves Ajay Devgn!
