He’s been known to stick to one film at a time. He also doesn’t take a break in the middle of any movie. However, this time, Aamir Khan has asked wife Kiran Rao to grant him 10 days off, so he can finalise his next acting assignment.
It’s been almost two years since he signed his last film, Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots, which went on to win the National Award for Best Film (Hindi), apart from grossing over an unprecedented Rs 425 crore. Khan wants to ensure that his next, as an actor, is announced by Diwali. The aftermath of 3 Idiots and his production Peepli Live, which was directed by Anusha Rizvi, kept him busy for a major part of the year. Currently, he is overseeing the post-production of Dhobi Ghat with Rao. And consequently, the scripts for the actor kept piling up at his office, which prompted him to set up a division to shortlist the suitable ones for him to go through.
A source at Aamir Khan Productions (AKP) revealed that the actor-filmmaker is reading one script every day and has set a deadline for himself to confirm his next in the coming 10 days. Apart from some first-time directors, Khan also has scripts from names like Yash Raj Films, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Rajkumar Santoshi to name a few. Even Anurag Kashyap is keen to rope in Khan for his Bombay Velvet.
Corporate studios like UTV Motion Pictures and Reliance Big Entertainment are said to be closely following his moves.
“Aamir told Kiran that he can’t put off selecting the next movie he will do from among the scripts offered to him. She understood and agreed to let him take time off to finalise his next assignment as an actor,” revealed our source. While Khan was unavailable for comment, his spokesperson says, “Yes, Aamir has cancelled all his scheduled itinerary to concentrate on reading the scripts. As soon as he’s decided on his next film, he will make the appropriate announcement.”
