Aamir Khan, who is known to be a perfectionist, usually leaves no stone unturned to prepare for his films — be it the ones he is acting in or those that he is producing. On July 7, the actor took to social media to announce a casting call for his next production, which will be directed by Advait Chandan.
“Advait was an assistant director on Kiran Rao’s Dhobi Ghat (2011). He wanted to work with Aamir to understand the nuances of film production (Aamir also produced Dhobi Ghat). Then he worked as his manager for about two years. He has also worked with Aamir on projects like Dhoom:3 (2013) and PK (2014). Aamir really liked a story he came up with, and decided to produce the film. It revolves around a young girl who is a singer,” says a source close to the actor.
Apparently, Aamir is also taking a keen interest in the casting process. “The team has been looking for a girl to pull off this role for months now. From theatre groups to reality TV shows, they have tried hard to find an actor, who will suit the role of the protagonist, but they haven’t been successful. Aamir wants a girl, who can sing and act, so that she can record all the tracks in the movie herself,” says the source. Apparently, AR Rahman will compose the film’s music, and lyricist Prasoon Joshi will write the songs.
When contacted, Kiran Rao, who is an integral part of the production company backing this film, confirmed the news, and said, “We believe that there is no dearth of talented young girls out there. So, we decided not to restrict our search to the traditional modes of casting. We hope that many girls in the age group of 12 to 17 years will audition for the lead role in Advait’s film.”
